When it comes to pregnancy I learned quickly that comfort is key. As many of you know, I love fashion and I love styling my outfits every day. I was very apprehensive when it came to maternity clothing. I was only able to find a few maternity brands that I really loved. When this happened, I started looking for alternatives. Beginning with styling non-maternity pieces from my current wardrobe to see how long they would last me. I soon realized that it was not necessary to buy maternity clothes, but rather find the right fabric and shapes that suited my growing bump.
Around my 2nd trimester I realized that some of the non-maternity pieces I currently had were still working for me. Not knocking on maternity clothing at all, but if you have something you love in your wardrobe and it works for you, why not try to make it as versatile as possible. I realized that I could buy regular clothing in certain fits and just go a size up and they worked just as well as maternity clothes. The more structured pieces in my wardrobe did not last very long and they were more difficult to style. However, I did find a few non-maternity pieces that I want to share with you all. These pieces can be worn pre, during, and post pregnancy and they also don’t break the bank. You can shop my outfit below!
If you have these non-maternity pieces in your wardrobe, then keep them just in case. If you don’t, I am going to link all my favorites below and you can shop them to add into your wardrobe whether you are pregnant or not. Keep in mind most of these pieces are flowy, but they can be styled so many ways.
The Swing Dress
This dress is the perfect flowy and stylish silhouette and it tends to come in lots of pretty prints and solids. With the swing dress you have lots of options. You can pair it with a sweater duster and heels for a dress look. You can pair it with a bomber jacket and sneakers for amore casual look. If you find a sleeveless style. You can pair it with a tee underneath to create a fun daytime look.
The Tunic Tank
This tank is one of my favorites pre-pregnancy and during. They usually come in a knit fabric that basically grows with you. Before I got pregnant I found a few cute printed ones at Old Navy. I purchased them in Medium which is my regular size. These tanks literally still fit me right now and I am 36 weeks pregnant. To keep my style fun, I mostly mix-n-match my tanks with my bomber jackets and jeans or leggings. I love this combo for running errands, appointment days. This look is very cute and comfortable, and it keeps you going all day.
The Sweater Duster
So…The sweater duster, how I love this little piece. I have a few kimono pieces, but my sweater duster is a go-to for me. I purchased mine a couple years ago and I have used it so much throughout my pregnancy. I usually pair it over dresses for work, and over leggings and jeans for the weekend. Whether you are pregnant or not this piece is the perfect layering piece.
The Tank Dress
The tank dress is the perfect fitted option for mama-to-be’s. I purchased a few at the beginning of my pregnancy in a nice knit fabric. These styles grew with my bump, which I loved, and for some reason I enjoyed wearing the more fitted pieces. I paired these with my bomber jackets or some cute t-shorts layered over the dress. This piece is a must-have for those of you who want to go for a more fitted look during pregnancy.
The Bomber Jacket
The bomber jacket is the perfect statement piece for you mama. I had quite a few before pregnancy and I still wear all of them. Whether they are printed or solid, you can pair them with day time or nighttime looks. The thing I like the most about the bomber jacket is that you can get one that fits your style and still wear it after pregnancy.
