Lantern Light Festival: A Night of Chinese Lanterns

Last week we had the opportunity to check out the Lantern Light Festival here at the Miami Fair Grounds.  I didn’t know what to expect, but I was very excited for the experience.  The Lantern Light Festival is a seasonal event that is open until January 20th and is a perfect place to take the family for a fun night.

The Fire Breathing Dragon

As you walk into the festival you are greeted with the beautiful sounds of instrumental oriental music and a giant fire breathing dragon lantern.  Right next to it there is a lantern for each animal represented in the Chinese calendar.  My husband looked up which animal each one of us was.  My husband was born in ’85 and he is the Year of the Ox, I was born in ’87 and I am the Year of the Rabbit, and our little Pyun was born in ’18 and she is the Year of the Dog.  We stopped at the Dog lantern to show Pyun hers, and she just stared at the light in awe.

Festival Food

And of course, we enjoyed our festival food.  Corn dogs, fries, lemonade, cotton candy, all while taking in a little acrobat show.  After that is just a giant lantern show.  Our favorite was the lantern path, and the flamingo lanterns.  The best part about the lanterns is that you can stick to the paved walkway, or you can walk around the field and get up close to the lanterns.  I recommend this place for a fun family night, there is a lot of interactive activities to do with kids, like the forbidden maze, and mining for emeralds.  Just a fun night, full of lanterns for all.
