Most days I feel like there is not enough time in the day to get everything done. Often my days are comprised of a to-do list that is a mile long. Between, work, home, appointments, hobbies and general up-keep, Down Time is something I don’t get very often. However, I learned a while back that even if it’s just for 5 minutes. You should take time our of your day to dedicate to yourself. Down Time doesn’t have to be an hour long, it can just be a little moment that you take to do something for yourself. If you try to incorporate these things in your everyday routine. You will find yourself able to concentrate more on getting that to-do list checked off. These Little moments of Down Time can quickly turn into Me Time if you focus on doing something for yourself.
If you are like me, sometimes you will set out to make that Down Time some Me Time, but it ends up being a chore. Sometimes that Down Time turns into folding that load of laundry, or sweeping the house, or making a quick dinner. You see where I’m heading with this? Down Time can quickly just become part of your daily routine. You find you never get that Me Time, where you make it about yourself. It’s not about being selfish, it’s about taking a few moments to feed your soul. Then, you can be there for the ones you love and not be exhausted.
So, make a list of the little things you love to do for yourself. Do you want to read that magazine, or the next chapter in a book? Do you want to listen to your favorite music, or podcast? Would you like to take a short soak in the tub? or apply a 10-minute face mask? Find the things that you love and create some impactful Me Time for yourself a few times a week.
I am such a believer in self-care and taking time for yourself. Naturally I was excited to be partnering with Yardley London & Brand Backer to share some tips to elevate your Me Time with their amazing bath bars. Yardley is a skin care brand inspired by natures botanicals and infused with essential oils to give your skin the care it needs. I’ve been using Yardley soaps since I was in college. Yardley bath bars can be found at your favorite mass, drug and food stores like Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Shop Rite, HEB, Publix, Wegmans and many more. The new Creamy Coconut is available at most Walmart and Walgreens stores. The price point of these bars really makes them such an affordable luxury. These soap bars are the perfect compliment to your Me Time and give your skin that smoothness it needs, while soothing your mind. Here are a few tips to turn those little moments of “Down Time” into your very own “Me Time”.
Me Time Tip #1: Turn that Morning Shower into your very own Jam Session with your Favorite Tunes
If you’re a get up and go kind of person, chances are that you like to do things fast, and you don’t have that much time to set aside for Me Time. When I have days like this where I am feeling particularly rushed, I like to give myself a little boost. How do I do that?
I will choose a playlist with some of my ultimate favorite songs that really feed my soul and plug them into a speaker in the bathroom and keep them on while I shower. This is proven to enhance your mood and get your day started on the right foot. When I take the time to do this I tend to quiet my mind and focus on the music and not the million things I have to do that day. Trust me. Try this. You will love it. It’s never a good thing to start the day in a rush. Instead of taking the time to mentally go through your checklist, let your music guide your mood for the day.
Me Time Tip #2: Add some Aromatherapy with Lavender while Steaming up the Mirrors
When it comes to body, mind, and spirit. These three should always be in harmony for you to feel balanced. Aromatherapy is a good way to do this. By taking some of nature’s best and using it during your down time you can create the perfect Me Time. One of the best ways to incorporate Aromatherapy into your Me Time is during a hot steamy shower or bath. Normally this after a long day or after cleaning the whole house and I am exhausted.
Most of the time I like to take a hot steamy shower, and use essential oils, or scented candles. I will set them in the bathroom, close the door and it’s like being in a sauna in your own home. This is one of my favorite ways to take time for myself and show my body, mind and spirit that I care. I also recommend some soothing music in the background for ambience. This literally take 15-20 minutes and I come out a changed woman.
Me Time Tip #3: Catch up on your favorite Book/Magazine while taking a Small Soak
It’s very rare that I have about 30 minutes to soak in a bath, but a bath can be very soothing for the mind. I usually like to take this opportunity to do one of my favorite things. I love to read fashion magazines, and I highly recommend taking the time to catch up on the next chapter of your book. Read that magazine, listen to that podcast, drink that glass of wine. These little things will quickly turn your Me Time into the best Quiet Time you’ve ever had. This one may take a little longer so if you can try this once a week or once every other week. You will find this will help you feel like you have done something good to contribute to your self-care routine.
It really is so important to take time out for ourselves to do the little things in life that we love to do. This is what Me Time means to me.
