Q&A with Monica Casanova of Love Strung
Q: Why did you decide to go into business for yourself?
A: In 2011 I had my third child and I was looking for something to do while caring for him at home to keep my creativity flowing.
Q: How did the idea for Love Strung first come about?
A: I love DIY projects and great accessories to tie my looks together. So, I decided, why not make my own accessories and see how I do. I figured that worst case, I would at least know how to make jewelry for me and my daughters. Once I started, I got such an amazing response, and I never looked back.
Q: Was the jewelry market always your first choice for a business?
A: I never really set out to build a business. Everything evolved so quickly. The response that I got from people made my heart so happy, and my hobby turned into my passion. Here I am 8 years later and Love Strung just became a brand on its own.
Q: when did you know your business first took off?
A: It took about a year for the brand to take off. I put everything into the brand, creatively, financially and emotionally. I knew when I heard strangers knowing about the brand and loving the brand that it was something bigger.
Q: What is your daily motivation to keep going?
A: Two things. I love teaching my kids that you can make your dreams come true by working hard and pushing yourself. I love creating something that makes people feel good.
Q: Where do you get your inspiration for your pieces?
A: so many things. colors, nature, style, fashion, the list is endless as there’s inspiration all around me.
Q: Why did you choose Instagram as your main selling platform? Would you recommend it to other businesses?
A: IG has just been a great tool to provide exposure and getting my business known all around the world. it’s been the most effective way to communicate and share photos with someone I may have never met otherwise. IG has also been an incredible source to meet like-minded people and build personal friendships and business relationships. I would recommend having IG as part of any business’s social media platforms.
Q: How do you maintain a good work/life balance?
A: I have three children and a very supportive husband and without them this wouldn’t work. My family comes first, and I have created work/home boundaries. We have established routines as a family and of course spend quality time as much as possible. My daughters love being involved in the design process and helping at events. Along with owning love strung, I have a full time 9-5 job. Balancing a 9-5 and creative business has its struggles and of course calls for some late-night designing, but it’s always been worth it, and I wouldn’t change it.
Q: What’s your #1 piece of advice for moms/women who want to start their own business?
A: There’s no day like today to start. If you have a passion, if you have a dream, don’t hesitate. Everything will work out the way it should
So many good gems and advice from Monica. I hope you guys enjoyed this post and don’t forget to enter the giveaway before Sunday, July 7 at midnight.
