Good Morning All! Today’s post is a little more of an inspirational post. Today I’m touching on the subject of body positivity a little bit. Over the past few years since I started blogging and putting my style out there a lot more, I have gotten so many different responses about it. Mostly positive, which is great, but it takes a lot to be comfortable in your own skin and to have the confidence to wear what you want to wear every day. Waking up every morning and putting whatever you want on your body and wearing what makes you feel good all starts with accepting your body the way it is.
Accept Your Body
Your body does a lot for you on a daily basis. It very true that if you take care of it and put into it the correct nutrients, that it will give a lot more. However, being in tune with your body and knowing it’s perfect just the way it is, is the most important part. One of my favorite TV shows a couple years back was, What Not to Wear. Many of you maybe watched it, maybe not. The premise of the show was Stacy London & Clinton Kelly taking people who were hiding behind clothing, or a different persona, and teaching them to embrace their body and dress it in their own way. One of the most important things that I took away from the show was Stacy’s advise to most of the participants. When they would complain that something was too tight, or didn’t look right, she would say “start where you are now.” Wherever your body is right now, no matter what circumstances you’ve been through. Look in the mirror and accept your body the way it is, size doesn’t matter, it’s about your mindset.
Dress Up & Show Up
I don’t know about you guys, but most mornings I’m not looking to go for 100% ready for a night on the town kind of look. Since I’ve been home taking care of baby and doing a lot more with her, I have been more focused on comfort and style, but my way. Sometimes that means a tee and jeans but with a cool pair of earrings or a stack of my favorite good vibe bracelets. Dressing up every day doesn’t always mean face on, hair done, heels on. Every day you should put on your body what will comfortably get you through the day and help you get things done. A lot of time we see on social media people who have on a new amazing outfit every day, life isn’t like that for most of us. We don’t all have an amazing event or party to go to every day, and that’s ok. Getting dressed up is about getting out of your pj’s and getting into something that feels like you every day.
Don’t Limit Yourself
Lastly, I just want to say to all of you out there who at some point have gone shopping, or looked at someone else’s style, and said “I can’t wear that” or “I wouldn’t look good in that”. I’m here to tell you, YES YOU WOULD. If you’ve read my blog in the past, you know I always say, style is very personal. Every one of us has a different body type, is a different size, and none of that matters because the same dress that I wore to an event a month ago, could look just as amazing on you. Why? Because you can wear it your own way. If you see someone with a dress or skirt or pants, and you like how they look, find a similar version and try styling them in your own way, and see what happens. Don’t be worried about what size someone else is, or where they bought their clothes. You find ways to style pieces in your own way, and soon you’ll have a unique style all your own. It’s not about what you wear, it’s about how you wear it.
This message is such an important one for me as well. I think waking up every morning and getting ready for the day is a crucial part of your mentality for the day. If we all learned that we are beautiful and unique, this process would be a much more enjoyable one every day. Please remember that we all have bad days, we all have days that we run around in sweats, and that’s OK. This is life. It’s important that we accept all that come with it. Join me in the body positivity movement. Enjoy yourself, try something new this week, and tell me all about it in the comments below!
